Eight and Twenty
Daybreak
Blink, hard.
Clamp toes release, slightly better.
Now-
Take a breath
Worry thought
Worry thought
Blink, hard.
The Middle
Lists, things many things
Time of the essence
Nervous anxious
Blink, release
Better.
Overwhelming blink
Apprehensive for the 100th time
People pleasing, heart racing, how do I explain myself?
Blink, hoping everything is O.K.
Constant thoughts, constant racing, wondering, deciphering
Anxiety, pushing, crushing it further from my skin
Crash
For just a moment, peace ensues
Then blink again.
Better.

Kellie,
ReplyDeleteI like the staccato nature of this piece. Your revisions into sections and the addition of the title are really interesting and leave me wondering about the subject. I just have a suggestion about presentation. Have you thought about playing with the font, size, or color of the font or paper? Sometimes when things are printed on plain white paper in Times New Roman they loose their effect. If this poem is indeed about stress - it might be really interesting to evoke that feeling visually (via the font or color of the piece) as well.
